Real world experience provided through six week work exposure in prestigious environments in Washington, DC.

 

The South Africa-Washington International Program is helping to inspire, prepare and support South African youth to lead a sustainable democracy with a peaceful and prosperous future for all its citizens.

SAWIP Alumnus 2009

 

In 2011 I completed my postgraduate Law degree and subsequently received a full scholarship to read an honours degree in Journalism at Stellenbosch for 2012.

 

I am involved as a trustee of the Kay Mason Foundation which recently received the Inyathelo Merit Award for combining community service with business. I serve as a university mentor to current student residence leaders and I am part of a student initiative program for First Generation Students (students who are the first in their families to attend university) at Stellenbosch University. This program will be in its pilot phase during 2012. The program will commence with a camp of 200 students with the aim of introducing the students to Stellenbosch University life as well as the facilities and resources that the university offers.

 

SAWIP gave me the opportunity to meet remarkable people and hear unique views on the world. My most memorable experience of SAWIP is of the relationships I built with fellow team members in 2009, my host family, the SAWIP alums and the Irish students.
