The South Africa-Washington International Program is helping to inspire, prepare and support South African youth to lead a sustainable democracy with a peaceful and prosperous future for all its citizens.

Reiturnetse Benedict Phiri

Having initially been educated at St. Davids Marist College and King Edwards VII, Reitumetse Phiri proceeded to sit for and obtain BA and LLB degrees at the University of Cape Town.

 

During his time at the University of Cape Town, Reitumetse Benedict quickly I distinguished himself as a student leader of notable repute. He served on and occupied various positions on a number of student and university bodies including being president of the Head Students’ Council, co¬-chairperson of the Residences’ Forum, chairperson of the Subwardens' Association, vice president of the Law Students' Council, treasurer of the Black Law Students’ Forum, a two time member of Student Parliament, the Residences Co-coordinator on the Students` Representative Council, a member of the Residences Executive Committee, a member of the University Transformation Committee and a member of the Law Faculty Board. Reitumetse was recognised for his unwavering commitment to student leadership and service when he secured a nomination as a proposed participant in the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Programme. He is a 2007 alumnus of the South African Washington Internship Programme (SAWIP).

 

Reitumetse was a candidate attorney at Fluxmans Attorneys in Johannesburg. His main practice areas included general corporate and commercial law, insolvency practice and high court commercial litigation. He has proven himself to be particularly capable in advising on general aspects of corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions. corporate governance and company and business restructuring. He also has a good understanding of South African gambling legislation and regulations as well as the legal framework governing Public Private Partnerships.

 

He is currently an associate with Fasken Martineau DuMoulin (Pty) Ltd in Johannesburg.
