The South Africa-Washington International Program is helping to inspire, prepare and support South African youth to lead a sustainable democracy with a peaceful and prosperous future for all its citizens.

Diversity and cultural exchange

A fundamental aspect of the programme is the exposure to and appreciation of diversity - histories, world views, and cultures - provided by:

  • the selection of a diverse team
  • the leadership curriculum
  • the opportunity to work together and apply new understandings and perspectives in discussion, debate, service and other leadership roles
  • the engagement with students from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland through the WIP program
  • living with American host families and experiencing diverse American cultures in all their nuances and complexities
