Real world experience provided through six week work exposure in prestigious environments in Washington, DC.

 

The South Africa-Washington International Program is helping to inspire, prepare and support South African youth to lead a sustainable democracy with a peaceful and prosperous future for all its citizens.

Are you eligible?

What criteria do I have to meet to become an applicant?

  • Are you a full-time university student studying at the University of the Western Cape, University of Cape Town, or Stellenbosch University?
  • Are you in good standing with your University and achieving better than passing grades in your chosen course of studies?
  • Will you be between the ages of 19 and 25 on the 1st of January in your year of application? (You must be in your second year of study or above.)
  • Were you born in South Africa, or are you a citizen of South Africa and call it your permanent home. Do you represent a South African Story?
  • Are you free to fully commit to a six-month program that begins with interviews, selection and orientation in March 2012 and ends with graduation and alumni induction in September 2012?
  • Have you been involved in any projects/activities that demonstrate your commitment to service?
  • Are you willing to demonstrate "leadership through service" by working a minimum of 30 hours on a public/community service project between April and June before you go to Washington DC?
  • Are you willing to dedicate 30 hours to a local team community service project possibly over a series of weekends when you return from Washington DC?
  • Do you have a valid passport, or can you obtain one by the end of April 2012?
  • Are you available to participate for a full and uninterrupted six weeks in Washington DC during the South African winter university vacation?
  • Are you available for a personal interview between the 8th - 16th March 2012?
  • Are you available for a Selection camp on the weekend of the 23rd – 25th of March 2012?
  • Are you available for an Orientation camp on the weekend of the 30th March -1st April 2012?
  • Are you fit and healthy enough to travel and actively participate in a rigorous program?

Did you answer YES to all of the above questions?

If you did - Congratulations! You are now eligible to apply to the South Africa-Washington-Internship Program for 2012.
