Peter Rogan

After obtaining a BComm. LLB from Stellenbosch University, Peter went to London to do an LLM at Kings College London University specializing in, inter alia, insurance and marine insurance law. Peter then worked for Willis, a Lloyd's insurance broker, before joining Ince & Co in 1977. Ince & Co is one of the world’s leading maritime and insurance law firms with offices in Beijing, Dubai, Hamburg, Hong Kong, Le Havre, London, Monaco, Paris, Piraeus, Shanghai and Singapore. Peter became a partner in 1982 and was the Senior Partner of the global firm from 2000-2008.

With over 30 years of experience Peter has advised on all areas of insurance concentrating on reinsurance, marine, processional indemnity and political risks. He has been involved in many of the major market issues over the years and developed a strong reputation for sensible strategic advice in relation to large disputes. Peter has handled countless arbitrations and mediations.

In March 2008, after 8 years at the helm Peter stepped down as the firm's Senior Partner. During this period he led the firm’s international expansion, opening four new offices across Europe and the Middle East. He also maintained his practice in relation to key disputes, and he continues to advise clients in addition to taking-on a wider role within the market on behalf of the global firm.

Peter takes appointments’ as an arbitrator and mediator.

Peter is a founder member of ARIAS UK (an international arbitration reinsurance association) and an ex-Chairman of the Insurance Committee of the International Bar Association. He regularly chairs and speaks at conferences in London and abroad.

Peter has been distinguished as a leading insurance and reinsurance lawyer by Chambers and Partners, UK Legal 500 and Who's Who Legal, and he was named Global Insurance & Reinsurance Lawyer of the Year in the 2012 Who’s Who Legal Awards.

Peter is married with five children. He is passionate about all sport but with particular emphasis on golf, rugby (he has attended all the Rugby World Cup Finals since 1995), football (a Chelsea supporter) he also attended the Champions league cup final in Munich 2012 and tennis.
