Rhodes Scholarship for 2012 awarded to SAWIP Alumnus Sabeeha Mansoor |
|
By Sabeeha Mansoor
The Rhodes Scholarship is one of the oldest scholarships for postgraduate study and is arguably one of the most coveted and competitive scholarships to obtain. Only about 80 candidates worldwide are awarded the scholarship, and SAWIP alumnus Sabeeha Mansoor (’10) will represent one of the twelve from South Africa - in the Class of 2012.
While she awaits her start at Oxford University in September, Sabeeha will work for Bain & Company in Johannesburg, a large consulting firm headquartered in the US. She begins her training next month at US-headquarters.
About her Rhodes award, Sabeeha says: “In September of 2012, I hope to be reading for a Masters in Economics for Development. This is a degree that speaks to my passion for development economics and my desire to work in the field more actively. I am both excited and nervous. I have no doubt that my experiences as a SAWIP 2010 team member contributed to my ability to articulate my dreams with enough conviction to have been selected from a pool of truly outstanding candidates.” |
