The South Africa-Washington International Program is helping to inspire, prepare and support South African youth to lead a sustainable democracy with a peaceful and prosperous future for all its citizens.

I have recently graduated from the University of Stellenbosch with my honours in Industrial Psychology. In 2012 I will be embarking on part-time studies through the CFA Institute and will also be looking to step into the corporate world.

 

SAWIP has broadened my frame of reference in all aspects and it has strongly re-affirmed the passion I have to ensure a better future for South Africa and all its people. More often than not the program has put me out of my comfort zone, and, through this, it has empowered me to grow both in a personal capacity and in my leadership ability. The SAWIP journey was made meaningful through the life long friendships that I have built with fellow team mates along the way.

 

My most memorable SAWIP experience took place through our community project initiative. We facilitated a leadership development program for high school learners from the Western Cape. To see their lives literally change before our eyes over such a short period of time (three days) meant so much more to me and the team than it did to them. After the weekend I could see that they were ready to change South Africa and their communities. Our community project interaction changed the way I look at the youth of our country.
