The programme matches students with prestigious internships within public and private spheres that match their interests and academic studies. These are aimed at developing their potential in professional environments. Students work four days a week as interns. SAWIP is acutely aware of the need to build, in young South Africans, the skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to tackle important issues facing South Africa. Students are able to learn from first-hand experience within the fields of international relations, education, health and government. These internships serve to further galvanize their ambition to play a pro-active role in society. Intern placements have included the World Bank, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Centre for International Private Enterprise, the Centre for Strategic International Studies and the Council for a Community of Democracies.

“My Work Placement at National Strategies Incorporated gave me the opportunity to critically assess the challenges and opportunities that currently face South Africa, as well as those we might and will face in the future.” (Christo van Wyk - 2008)
